The Middle East Crisis in 2006 was a 33 day military conflict between Hezbollah paramilitary forces and Israeli military. The conflict started on 12 July 2006 and took place in Lebanon and northern Israel. The United Nations negotiated a ceasefire which took effect on 14 August 2006 and the conflict formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon.
Australian Government Support
During the Middle East Crisis in July 2006, the Australian Government provided extensive support for Australians seeking to leave Lebanon. This support included evacuation, consular assistance, crisis management, personal support and reception assistance. An Australian Government helpline for support was available during the conflict for people seeking information. This helpline has now closed.
