Tropical Cyclone Niran and associated low pressure system: 25 February – 3 March 2021

​​Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements

The joint Australian, state and territory governments' Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) provide a range of financial assistance to the natural disaster-declared areas in each state or territory.

For tropical cyclone Niran which impacted parts of North Queensland from 25 February 2021, the available assistance measures include:

  • Counter disaster operations in the six (6) local government areas of:
    • Burdekin
    • Cairns
    • Cassowary Coast
    • Hinchinbrook
    • Palm Island
    • Yarrabah
  • Restoration of damaged essential public assets in the five (5) local government areas of:
    • Cairns
    • Cassowary Coast
    • Hinchinbrook
    • Palm Island
    • Yarrabah
  • Disaster assistance (primary producer) loans; disaster assistance (essential working capital) loans scheme for primary producers; and freight subsidies for primary producers in the five (5) local government areas of:
    • Cairns
    • Cassowary Coast
    • Hinchinbrook
    • Mareeba
    • Tablelands

Recovery grants

Recovery grants of up to $75,000 are available for eligible primary producers in the local government areas of Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Hinchinbrook, Mareeba and Tablelands.
