On 22 March 2016 terrorist attacks at Brussels Zaventem airport and the Brussels Metro killed at least 32 people, and injured more than 300 people.
Australian Victim of Terrorism Overseas Payment
On 6 May 2016, the Prime Minister declared the terrorist acts in Brussels on 22 March 2016 for the purposes of the Australian Victim of Overseas Payment (AVTOP) scheme. This means that Australian residents harmed as a direct result of these attacks in Brussels may seek a one-off payment of financial assistance of up to $75,000.
