On the afternoon of 7 April 2017, an attacker drove a stolen truck down the busy Drottninggatan shopping street in Stockholm, running down pedestrians before crashing into the Ahlens department store. The attack killed five people and at least another 15 were injured.
Australian Victim of Terrorism Overseas Payment
On 5 July 2017, the Prime Minister declared the attack in Stockholm for the purposes of the Australian Victim of Overseas Payment (AVTOP) scheme. This means that Australian residents harmed or whose close family member dies as a direct result of the attack in Stockholm may seek a one-off payment of financial assistance of up to $75,000.
