Disaster Recovery Payment

Disaster Recovery Payment (DRP) begins when individuals and families are impacted by a disaster and are in need of Australian Government assistance. You may also be able to claim standard recovery assistance.

DRP is a one-off payment of $1000 for eligible adults and $400 for eligible children who have been directly affected by a major disaster either in Australia or overseas. The DRP is not means tested.

Each disaster is different and  payments will depend on the type of disaster and how communities are affected. The DRP assists with the short-term recovery needs of the community.

The Prime Minister or Cabinet may also decide to provide a similar payment to New Zealand Special Category visa holders.

For further information regarding DRP and eligibility requirements  visit the Department of Human Services.
