Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA)
This assistance is provided through the joint Australian and State government Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) and applies to the natural disaster declared areas in each state.
NDRRA assistance for the Victorian flooding event which occurred between 22 - 23 March 2011 has been made available for the four local government areas of Baw Baw, Latrobe City, Mildura and South Gippsland.
Personal hardship and distress assistance is available in all areas:
- Emergency Grants of up to $427 per adult and $213 per child; to a maximum of $1,067 per household. This grant is not means tested and is designed to cover immediate assistance to people in urgent need of food, clothing, and shelter;
- Temporary Living Expenses of up to $865 a week per household for a maximum of 10 weeks for people whose principal residence is unfit to live in or inaccessible for more than one week. This grant is income tested and is designed to cover expenses for temporary accommodation and transport costs not covered by insurance; and
- Re-establishment Grants of up to $8,650 for structural repairs and up to $8,650 for household items to help residents with their re-establishment of house structures and essential content items that are not insured. This grant is income tested.
Assistance is also available for the restoration of essential public assets and counter disaster operations in all areas.
Clean up and restoration grants of up to $25,000 for small businesses and primary producers are available in the local government areas of Baw Baw, Latrobe City, Mildura and South Gippsland.

“On 11 June 2011 the Prime Minister agreed to contribute financial support under Category D of the NDRRA for extended concessional loans to businesses, primary producers and not-for-profit organisations. Concessional loans are available for up to $650,000 over 10 years, with a grant component capped at $50,000, for eligible weather events between January 2011 and March 2011”
