New South Wales Floods (January 2012) - Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment
Australian Government expenditure for New South Wales heavy rainfall and flooding as at 12 April 2012.
The AGDRP will be provided to eligible people who have been affected by the heavy rain and flooding that occurred during January 2012 in the four Local Government Areas that are natural disaster declared under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements:
- Gwydir
- Moree
- Narrabri, and
- Walgett
The payment is to provide one-off financial assistance to eligible Australians adversely affected by the disaster. The AGDRP rate is $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child. Claims for payment can be lodged at the Department of Human Services (Centrelink)
Ex gratia payment for New Zealanders affected by recent flooding

Claims for this payment can be lodged at the Department of Human Services (Centrelink).
You have until 6 August 2012 to lodge a claim for the following Local Government Areas:
- Gwydir
- Moree
- Narrabri
And until 23 September 2012 to lodge a claim for Walgett Local Government Area.

Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements
The joint Commonwealth and State/Territory Government NDRRA can provide a range of financial assistance to the natural disaster declared areas in each state.
NDRRA funding following the Northern New South Wales heavy rainfall and flooding that commenced on the 27 January 2012 is available in the 27 affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) for:
- Personal hardship and distress assistance
- Concessional interest rate loans for small businesses and primary producers
- Transport freight subsidies for primary producers
- Restoration or replacement of essential public assets, and
- Loans and grants to Churches, Voluntary Non-profit Organisations and Sporting Clubs.

- Central Darling
- Clarence Valley
- Cobar
- Coffs Harbour
- Gloucester
- Gunnedah
- Greater Taree
- Gwydir
- Inverell
- Kempsey

- Liverpool Plains
- Moree
- Nambucca
- Narrabri
- Richmond Valley
- Tamworth
- Tenterfield
- Tweed
- Upper Hunter and
- Walgett.
NDRRA Category C clean-up and restoration grants of up to $15,000 are also available for eligible small businesses, primary producers and not-for-profit organisations within the 4 LGAs of:
- Gwydir
- Moree
- Narrabri, and
- Walgett.
People suffering from personal hardship from the flooding may be eligible for emergency assistance.
