Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA)
The Australian Government will provide financial assistance to Victorian, South Australian, Western Australian and Tasmanian communities affected by flooding/severe weather in November 2010 – January 2011.
This assistance is provided through the joint Australian and State government Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) and applies to the natural disaster declared areas in each state.

Victoria
NDRRA assistance has been made available for the following 36 local government areas: Alpine, Ballarat, Benalla, Buloke, Campaspe, Central Goldfields, Gannawarra, Glenelg, Golden Plains, Greater Bendigo, Greater Geelong, Greater Shepparton, Hepburn, Hindmarsh, Horsham, Hume, Indigo, Loddon, Mansfield, Mildura, Mitchell, Moira, Mount Alexander, Moyne, Murrindindi, Northern Grampians, Pyrenees, Strathbogie, Swan Hill, Towong, Wangaratta, Warrnambool, Wodonga, Wyndham, Yarra Ranges and Yarriambiack.
The following personal hardship and distress assistance is available in all areas:
- emergency grants of up to $1,067 to provide assistance to meet immediate basic needs
- temporary living expense grants of up to $8,650 to assist households with the cost of temporary accommodation and living expenses, and
- re-establishment grants of up to $8,650 for repairs to structural damage to a residence and $8,650 to replace essential household contents such as furnishings and electrical goods.
Assistance for the restoration of essential public assets is available in all areas.
Concessional interest rate loans are available for eligible small businesses and primary producers whose properties have suffered direct damage as a result of the floods.

South Australia

Disaster Income Recovery Subsidy:

NDRRA assistance has been made available for areas affected by severe weather on 7 - 8 December 2010. Personal hardship and distress assistance is being made available in the four local government areas of Clare and Gilbert Valleys, Loxton Waikerie, Mid Murray and The Barossa.
Individuals suffering from personal hardship as a result of the severe weather may be eligible for emergency assistance. Enquiries in relation to this assistance should be directed to the South Australian Department of Families and Communities.
Western Australia
NDRRA assistance for the severe thunderstorm on 29 January 2011 has been made available for the 20 local government areas: Beverley, Brookton, Cuballing, Cunderdin, Dalwallinu, Goomalling, Narrogin, Northam, Perenjori, Pingelly, Quairading Toodyay, Victoria Plains, Wagin, Wandering, West Arthur, Wickepin, Williams, Wongan Hills and York.
NDRRA assistance includes:
- certain counter disaster operations
- personal hardship and distress assistance
- restoration of essential public assets
- interest rate subsidies for small businesses and primary producers, and
- professional advice grants and freight subsidies for primary producers.
Tasmania
Australian Government expenditure for Tasmania Floods as at midnight 1 April 2011
Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment:
- claims grants - less than 20
- amount paid - $1,643
NDRRA assistance has been made available for areas affected by flooding that occured on 11 January 2011 in the following 11 local government areas of Break O’Day, Burnie, Central Coast, Deveonport, Dorset, Kentish, Latrobe, Meander, Northern Midlands, Warratah-Wynyard and West Tamar.
NDRRA assistance includes:
- personal hardship and distress assistance,
- temporary living expenses grant: Up to $8,650 to assist with accommodation costs and other temporary living expenses for up to 6 months;
- essential household items grants: Up to $5,600 (plus $500 per household member up to $8,650) to assist with the replacement of essential household items damaged or destroyed;
- repair, restoration and clean up grants: Up to $8,650 to assist with the re-establishment of a principal place of residence based on a basic, minimum standard to allow it to be inhabited.
- restoration of essential public assets, and
- clean-up and recovery grants of up to $25,000 for small businesses, primary producers and charitable and not-for-profit sector impacted by the flash floods and the riverine flooding
