Assistance

On 9 March 2007, the Prime Minister announced additional Commonwealth support in the form of cash payments to people who were seriously injured or whose main place of residence was destroyed or rendered uninhabitable as a direct result of Tropical Cyclone George.  Under these special arrangements the Government will provide $1,000 per adult and $400 per child to help with the immediate impact of the cyclone.  This assistance comes on top of the usual financial help provided by the Commonwealth under natural disaster arrangements.

Western Australians seeking information about this assistance should contact the Australian Government Assistance hotline on 1802255.  Information about how to claim is also available from Centrelink's Website.
