The Prime Minister has approved assistance for immediate family members of the deceased Australian and for those seriously injured in the 7 July 2005 London Bombings to travel to and from London to attend the first anniversary commemorations of the 7 July 2005 London Bombings.
To be eligible to receive assistance, the applicants must:
For travel, accommodation and related costs the following people may be eligible to receive assistance:
Travel costs - Centrelink will book one return airfare to London and direct connecting domestic flight(s) to the airport closest to the eligible person’s place of residence, capped at the economy rate.
Accommodation and related costs – flat rate of $500 per adult for up to ten (10) nights only. This is intended to assist with accommodation, meals and incidental expenses such as taxi fares, phone calls. (children under 16 years receive half the adult rate).
Claims forms can be obtained from the Centrelink website.
Applicants will need to lodge and obtain approval of their claims prior to travel.
Travel can commence from 1 July 2006 and must be completed by 20 July 2006 (one trip per eligible person up to a maximum of ten nights). The trip needs to include being in London on 7 July 2006.
