July 2005 London Bombings

On 7 July 2005, London was hit by a series of co-ordinated bomb attacks that struck the public transport system during the morning rush hour. Three bombs were detonated on three London underground trains and a fourth bomb exploded on a bus in Tavistock Square.

Fifty-six people were killed in the attacks, including the four bombers, and approximately 700 injured. Of those, one Australian was killed and 11 injured.

Following the attacks, the then Minister for Family and Community Services Senator the Hon Kay Patterson announced a package of assistance and support for Australians affected by the bombings. Claims for this assistance closed on 31 December 2005.
